We’ve seen this week that the credit crunch has done very little to dampen the spirits of aspiring property seekers looking for that ‘dream home’. If anything the downturn seems to be encouraging consumers to dream more and set their sights even higher when it comes to property ownership.

According to research for our property website PropertyLive.co.uk, over a fifth of Brits are only looking at properties they can’t afford when searching for a new home on the internet. Why? Well 47% said they couldn’t resist the temptation to have a nose, while over half admitted they have taken to looking at these ‘dream’ properties just in case they win the lottery!

Our findings show that people in Brighton are the most likely to consider properties outside of their budget (when compared to the rest of the UK) and those living in Norwich were the least likely.

Of those people looking at properties outside of their means, a third (34%) admitted to feeling bitter, jealous or angry.

So is this a sensible approach to take? Of course there is little harm in looking at properties outside your price range just as long as you remain realistic about the end result and your chances of wining which are around 14 (million):1!

You can read more about the research in the Daily Telegraph which ran the findings.
